Code Bubbles IDE

Andrew Bragdon, Brown University:

The essential goal of this project is to make it easier for developers to see many fragments of code (or other information) at once without having to navigate back and forth. Each of these fragments is shown in a bubble.

A surprisingly deep exploration of an idea I’ve been dreaming about for quite a while now. The idea of having a virtual workspace where you can browse classes and edit code isn’t new, but I’m not aware of any other development environment that correctly identifies the function — not the file or class — as the atomic unit of programming.

Too bad it’s built for Java, which unfortunately is still de rigueur among Computer Science academics.
