@Bergamot: Well, not quite. We knew Leopard was an utter clusterfuck even at this point in 2007 — or at least anyone with seed access did. The WWDC06 build and subsequent seeds were pretty awful. The biggest source of at least developer malaise at this point is the App Store. I’d argue that’s different from previous problems we’ve seen — a bad policy rather than a bad implementation.

I highly doubt that Apple’s designers were paid to do nothing for the entire Snow Leopard cycle

Coming up with the iPhone and iPad UIs don't count?

we haven’t seen anything from the iLife team yet.

I thought I saw photos and the like on the iPad.

The thing is, you could have said the exact same thing at this point in 2007: Intel transition going smoothly, iPhone looked amazing, Leopard on the horizon.

And you would have been right then too.

When a company is on the way up, every year can be the best year they've ever had.
